The Jordan All Star Weekend Fam Fest was a full-scale event production at the Bay Area Navy Yard. It encompassed three entire industrial halls, a complete outdoor area including a custom-built skatepark, basketball courts, a sneaker gallery, live performance stages, and talent management. As Senior Producer, I was responsible for the overall organization of the event infrastructure – from security concepts and visitor engagement to obtaining permits from the city, fire department, emergency services, police, and traffic management.
Two weeks before the event, while the main production was underway, a request came in: a drone show over the Bay Bridge. The logistical complexity was immense. This involved various no-fly zones for the All Star Weekend, weather-related backup plans, and the need to keep multiple take-off and landing zones on hold simultaneously. Coordination with landowners in San Francisco and Oakland, city authorities in both cities, and the Coast Guard for airspace over the bay was also required.
In parallel with the main production, I received a request for a drone show over the Bay Bridge. 1,200 drones formed the iconic Jumpman logo above the illuminated Bay Bridge – a visual statement visible across the entire Bay Area. The technical execution required precise GPS mapping, redundant control systems, and real-time communication with air traffic control. Up until the day of the event, three potential launch sites remained under consideration, dependent on wind, weather, and last-minute FAA clearance.
COMMUNICATION, MARKETING,
DESIGN & EXPERIENCE
A full-scale event production with complete site infrastructure and parallel drone show coordination. The challenge lay in coordinating multiple service providers: city permits, police traffic management, fire department safety plans, Coast Guard airspace clearance, and FAA compliance – all running concurrently. The drone show, with only two weeks' notice, required securing multiple sites simultaneously, submitting redundant flight plans, and keeping backup locations active until the day of the event. The result: one of the largest consumer brand activations of the year, culminating in a visual finale visible throughout the Bay Area. Complexity arose from simultaneity – site management of a complete event infrastructure and a drone choreography over open water, all under official supervision and cooperation.
